Joseph Erunmwosa Osemwenkhae
Prof Joseph Erunmwosa Osemwenkhae is a Professor of Mathematical Statistics in the Department of Statistics, University of Benin, Benin City. He was born in Umoghun-Nokhua to Prince Napoloen Osemwenkhae-Ogiugo and Mrs Uwubamwen Osemwenkhae (nee Irorere) both of Orhionmwon LGA of Edo State on the 30th of September, 1968.
He attended Ugu Primary School, Umoghun-Nokhua between 1973 and 1979 from where he proceeded to Ugbeka Collge, Evboehighae (Orhionmwon LGA) between 1979 and 1984 where he obtained his West African School Certificate in 1984.
[n 1986, he gained admission into the University of Benin (UNIBEN) to read Education Mathematics and bagged a B. Ed. (Mathematics) in 1990 with a Second Class Honours (Upper Division). He also obtained his M. Sc. (Mathematics) and Ph. D (Mathematics/Statistics) in 1994 and 2004, respectively, from the same University.
[On 2nd of January, 1995, he was employed as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, UNIBEN. He rose through the ranks and became a Professor of Mathematical Statistics on the 1st of October, 2010.
He has served in over 50 academic and administrative positions within and outside the University of Benin. These include: member, UNIBEN Governing Council; Chairman, UNIBEN Staff School; Chairman, Students’ Work- Study Programme; Head, Department of Mathematics; Chairman, Central Entrance Examination Committee; Chairman, Staff Housing and Allocation Committee; Chairman, Business and Beautification Committee, Faculty of Physical Sciences; Chairman, Committee on ICT/CRPU; Chairman, Committee of Physical Sciences on Sanitation and Stores; Chairman, Department of Statistics Accreditation Committee; etc. In all of these, he is a good team player and a man endowed with great initiatives for optimal results in administration via digitization.[/size]
He has over 70 publications to his credit in local, national and international domains. He has supervised well over 20 postgraduate students’ thesis (4 Ph. Ds, 18 masters and postgraduate diplomas) and very many undergraduate students. His research focus is on density estimation and statistical modeling.
He is a member of many professional Bodies. Some of which are the American Statistical Association (ASA), the Nigerian Statistical Association (NSA), the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), the Statistics Research Group (SRG), National Association of Mathematical Physics (NAMP), etc. He is an editor to many academic research journals and a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria. He has served as an external examiner and professorial assessor to several Universities and Institutes.
He has served as a Resource Person and Facilitator to many national and international bodies such as: West African Examination Council (WAEC), National Universities Commission (NUC), National Population Commission (NPC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Technical Aid Corps Programme), Nigerian Metrological Agency (NIMeT), etc.[He is happily married to Mrs Blessing E. Osemwenkhae and they are blessed with four children
