Profile Summary

Professor Iribhogbe Pius is a Professor of Surgery and head of the Trauma Unit in the Department of Surgery. He teaches trauma and General Surgery. After qualifying as a specialist in General Surgery he undertook subspecialty Fellowship training in Trauma at the Liverpool Hospital in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia (2004-2005). Since then he has been the Coordinator of the Accident and Emergency Services at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital and head of the Unit. Professor Iribhogbe also since 2008 has been the pioneer Director of the Paramedic unit of the hospital and the training school in the affiliate Institute of Health Technology. Professor Iribhogbe is interested in trauma particularly trauma system development, Emergency Medical Services, injury prevention and building capacity for trauma care across the West African region. He is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, senior member of the American Association for Academic Surgery, European Association for Trauma and Emergency Surgery and International Surgical Society. He has over 40 publications on Surgery and trauma related subjects and has awards in Academics and Public Administration.
